Derek is currently a PhD candidate at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge working on the intersection of torture, land revenue, and the humanitarian ethos in nineteenth century India.

Major Research Interests: 

Debunking Eurocentric myths, early-modern exploration, the British Empire, South Asia studies, nineteenth century political thought, liberalism and maritime history. All, of course, within a global history framework!
