Lecture: A social-phenomenological perspective on state socialism in Poland and East Germany.

INVITATION

Institute of Sociology, University of Wrocław, Wrocław Department of the Polish Sociological Association & the Sociology of Work Section of the Polish Sociological Association have the pleasure to invite all interested for a lecture:

A social-phenomenological perspective on state socialism in Poland and East Germany. Some basic-theoretical afterthoughts about a joint research project

The aim of the Polish-German project was to analyse biographical experiences of people born between 1945-1955 in The People’s Republic of Poland and the German Democratic Republic. The background assumption of the study was that biographical research is not only the method of collecting and analysing empirical data but it also designs a specific way of thinking when exploring everyday life experience and biographical memories from the historical epoch of socialism. One of its elements is a process of reciprocal work on background expectations and knowledge at hand that could be examined both at the level of the life story author and on the level of researchers analysing materials and representing two different societies (Polish and German).

The lecture will be given by our Guests Prof. Fritz Schütze (Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg) and Prof. Kaja Kaźmierska (University of Łódź)

The lecture will take place on 8 march 2018, at 17:00, in Aula A of the Institute of Political Science.

Prof. Fritz Schütze and Prof. Kaja Kaźmierska visit the Institute of Sociology of the University of Wrocław as discussants of the Polish-German research project “Young precarious workers in Poland and Germany: a comparative sociological study on working and living conditions, social consciousness and civic engagement” (NCN Beethoven PREWORK UMO-2014/15/G/HS4/04476).
